Here at The Inside - we work a lot with wallpaper - we are constantly changing our showroom up - hanging and rehanging. Even though we have hung a lot we still learn new things and on occasion make boo boos. Good news is that helps us know more about technique and product.
Firstly and foremost world wide industry standard is do not hang anything that is faulty. All decorators should know this. If a product is hung and a fault determined afterwards then it is either a very minor fault that is hardly noticeable OR it is not a printing fault but probably an installation error.
Generally with faults or printing errors the faults are very evenly spaced and obvious. If it is an installation error then it is spread across the seams (such as the photo below).
This is almost certainly excess paste squeezed out of joins and not cleaned immediately. We can tell this as it is is on both sides of the join.
Here we have another one - it looks milky white and is also spread over the joins. Customer admitted her husband probably used too much paste and it leaked over the edges. Even when cleaned this would not come off. It is really important to wipe down the wallpaper after installation (all wallpaper labels will state this) to avoid staining or discolouration.
